She graduated from Hornell High School in 1936 and worked at the Steuben Trust Company for seven years as a teller, leaving in 1941. She held various clerical positions, the last being for nine years as a teacher's aide at Hornell High School, retiring in 1981.
She was active in her church and musical groups and was often a soloist at church services and weddings. Active in her community and her children's schools, she was the local and state representative for national and state PTA. She also served for 13 years as the Welcome Wagon Hostess in Hornell.
Dorothy is survived by three children, Henry Hedden and his wife, Rebecca, of Lewisberry, Sue Buccolo and her husband, Sam, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Marjorie Roberts and her husband, Kevin, of Newark, Del.; a sister, Mary A. Williams of Elmira, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Stank and her husband, Jason, Joshua Hedden and his wife, Amy, Adam Buccolo and his wife, Stephanie, Larissa Buccolo, Cassandra Brown and her husband, Andrew, Zachary Eldridge, Morgan Roberts, and Bryce Roberts; two greatgrandchildren, Michael and Connor Stank; and many nieces and nephews; neighbors and friends. Mrs. Hedden was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Allen Hedden.
The family will be present from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday to receive friends at Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church on Valley Road, Etters. A service will follow at 3 p.m. at the church. Friends wishing to remember Dorothy may make contributions to the Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church, 402 Valley Road, Etters, PA 17319; or United Methodist Home for Children, 5120 Simpson Ferry Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
