Willie Mae Aguillard

"The song has ended, but the melody lingers on" – Irving Berlin.

Willie "Maw" Mae Glaser Aguillard entered the gates of heaven on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the age of 87, where she was reunited with her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Edward Aguillard, and their beautiful daughter, Linda Aguillard. She also joined her parents, Fred & Inez Glaser, her siblings, Irma G. Summers, Fred Glaser Jr. and "Pete" Gordon Glaser. To know "Maw Mae" was to love her.

She was also the loving mother to Jerry Aguillard Evans (wife of Ronald Evans), Linda Aguillard (predeceased), James (Jimmy) Aguillard (husband of Julie Aguillard) and Russell (Mac) Aguillard (spouse of Donna Aguillard). Her legacy lives on through her children and her eight grandchildren, Christopher Evans, Ryan Evans (spouse of Ashley Evans), Lauri Evans Kitchen (spouse of James Kitchen, III), Kelly Aguillard (spouse of Mindy Aguillard), Kristen Baker (spouse of Hunter Baker), Kyle Aguillard (spouse of Karen Aguillard), Kara Leblanc (wife of Jonathan LeBlanc) and Leighanne Lyons (wife of Clint Lyons) and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was known for her great home-cooking, her Southern hospitality, her open door and her hot, delicious coffee. She was a native and long-time resident of Melville, Louisiana. She enjoyed all of the simplest pleasures in life, from Cajun Dancing or "shaking a leg" to Fats Domino, to fishing almost daily with her lady friends and then with her family after school and on weekends, and making a Grand Isle run any chance she could to do that all-night fishing off of the bridge! When her kids were young, she would stay up late at night and sew precious outfits for them to wear to school or in pageants as well as their doll clothes. They also had a family business that involved tomato greenhouses where they would produce and package tomatoes to send to market, with a side of family tomato fights. Her family lived for her home-cooking, and she was most well known for her delicious hamburgers, roast and gravy, mac and cheese and candied yams. Whatever Maw-Mae cooked, it tasted better coming from her loving kitchen. She was an All-Star Athlete in her youth. Her athleticism carried over into adulthood where she played on a ladies softball league. Maw Mae never saw the need in learning to drive a car, her bicycle and grocery basket suited her just fine for traveling around Melville. She rode her bike well into her 70s! Paw Paw drove her around for her weekly errands to the bank and post office, and she looked forward to her weekly hair appointments.

She was a lifelong active member of St. John's Catholic Church in Melville, providing any service she could as the needs of the church changed. In summary, she exuded sweet, southern grace and hospitality even until her peaceful passing. She instilled the importance of faith, family, service and selflessness into all of her children. She will be missed dearly by all, but her melody certainly lingers on in the hearts of all who loved her.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the employees at Lane Nursing Home in Zachary, Louisiana, for the special care that was given to her during her time there. They loved her and enjoyed seeing her sweet, spunky personality during her time there. Visitation will be held on Saturday in the LaFond-Ardon Funeral Home of Melville from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. John Catholic Church in Melville with Reverend Austin Leger officiating. Rite of Committal will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Lane Nursing Home at 6300 Main Street, Zachary, LA 70791 or to St. John's Catholic Church in Melville would be greatly appreciated.

LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Melville, 607 First Street, Melville, LA 71353 (337-942-2638) has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
