September 1940 – Passage. Carl Jerling, 10, of Highland, run over by a truck while playing with his scooter on the Alpine highway four miles north of American Fork Saturday night, died Sunday at an American Fork hospital after amputation of a crushed left leg.

Gilbert Shumway, marshal at American Fork, said witnesses told him that Bert Bennett, 28, of American Fork, apparently was blinded by the lights of an approaching car and did not see the boy.
