Edele P. deKirby, 99, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2017 at Balboa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in San Diego, a few blocks away from her home of the last 44 years. Born in Montana in 1917, Edele lived in Iowa & Nebraska before moving with her family to California in 1930. She graduated from Whittier High School in 1935 & from U. C. Berkeley in 1940 with a BSN. Edele met her husband, Ivor deKirby, when she was a freshman at U.C. Berkeley & they were married August 18, 1940, after both had received their degrees.

From 1940 until after WWII Edele worked in San Francisco as a Registered Nurse, primarily as a Public Health Nurse. When her husband, Ivor, was released from the U.S. Army in 1946 & returned to work for the Ford Motor Co., they lived in Richmond, Oakland & Long Beach before finally coming to San Diego in 1950 where Ivor became a Partner in Pearson Ford Co.

She also contributed to the San Diego community as a member of the Juniors of Social Service & as its President 1960-61. She was a charter & life member of Boys & Girls Aid Society, Star of India Auxiliary & Spreckels Organ Society. She was a member of Chapter FR P. E. O. serving as President 1984-85 & a member of Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church for many years. Edele & Ivor loved to travel wherever, whenever & however they could, from ballooning over the wine country in France to a ski plane landing on the Tasman glacier in New Zealand. Edele was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ivor, in 2000, & by her sister, Luella Kearse, in 1994
