Ruth Evangelin Aaron, 103, of Urbana passed away at 6:09 p.m. on May 1, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Casper Cemetery in Anna, IL. Brother Paul Sadler will officiate.

Ruth was born in Anna, IL on January 26, 1914 to parents John Henry and Sarah Jane (Campbell) Sweet. They preceded her in death.

On March 14, 1931 she married James Allen Aaron, born February 26, 1913 in Jonesboro, Illinois and a long time employee of AT&T and Western Union. Ruth and James celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on March 14, 2006 before his death on September 19, 2006.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Catherine Long and Stella Agnes White, three brothers, John Richard Sweet, Carl Jackson Sweet and Rolla Thomas Sweet (died in infancy) and one grandchild, Curtis Wade Garrett.

She is survived by her son, Jack Allen Aaron of Bristol, VA and daughter Lawana Ruth Garrett of Loveland, CO. Her granddaughter, Gaye Lynn Steadman (Alexander), great granddaughter, Roselyn of Penrose, CO, grandson, Darrell Garrett and great grandchildren, Helena and Sarah of Boise, ID and her grandson, Kenneth Garrett of Fort Collins, CO also survive her.

Ruth graduated from Illinois Commercial College on August 8, 1952 and was a bookkeeper/teller for University Savings & Loan, a bookkeeper for 1st Savings & Loan and also Keck Furniture.

She was of Christian faith and a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Savoy. She was also a member of Eastern Star. For many years, Ruth and James wintered in Holiday Park, Northport, FL. Her last few years she resided in Canterbury Ridge Assisted Living of Urbana.

She has lived through the more than tripling of the world population and remembered as a child the WWI veterans coming home with all of their injuries, struggling up the road as well as the influenza epidemic, when neighbors would leave food on the porch and then leave quickly.

Ruth has finally had her question answered as she joins her husband James and many of her friends and relatives in the hereafter of God’s eternal reward for a life well lived in the Christian faith. “Why am I still Here?” She will be sorely missed by those who knew her and were touched by her sweetness.
