In Memory of Roberta B. Hogberg
June 8, 1924 ~ March 15, 2017

Roberta B. Hogberg, 92, formerly of Rockford, Illinois, passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Brookdale Independent Living in Lisle, Illinois.
Roberta, daughter of the late Merville and Belle (Allen) Carmack, was born June 8, 1924, in Woodstock, Illinois.

A 1941 graduate of Woodstock High School, she attended Northwestern University. During World War II she worked for the War Department in Chicago and Dayton, Ohio, where she took flying lessons and completed her solo flight.

Upon Roberta's return to Woodstock, she began working in an insurance office and became reacquainted with George F. Hogberg Jr., whom she knew from their high school band and orchestra days. They married on August 5, 1950, in Woodstock, moved to Rockford two years later, and celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2010. George, the love of her life, preceded her in death on February 15, 2011.

Roberta was conscientious in everything she did. She began volunteering in the library of Johnson Elementary School, then became the school's part-time librarian. She went on to become a secretary at Barbour and Nashold elementary schools, retiring in the early 1990s.

She also volunteered at the Community Clothes Closet and served as an assistant Girl Scout troop leader.

Roberta loved a good laugh and enjoyed time spent with friends playing card games, especially bridge and pinochle. Lifetime devotees of music, Roberta and George often attended performances of community concerts and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rockford for more than 50 years.

Roberta is survived by: son, John (Maleea); daughter, Lisa (Ira) Lacher; and grandchildren: Andrew, Jessica (Brandon) Sharas, and Joshua and Julia (Lacher).
