ENGLAND, RODGER EUGENE, 66, of Sanford, FL passed away peacefully on Monday, April 17th, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 14th, 1950 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Eugene and Virginia England. Standing with him tirelessly for the last 31 years is his devoted wife, Susan (Burke) England. He is also survived by his extended England family including son, Brian England, Jeanette England, Marlene and Mark Simcox, Kathy Reed, and Joan Burton England. He is also survived by the Burke Family - Stephen, Marsha, Sydney and Lauren Burke and the Bower Family - Aurelie, Christopher, Jeffery, Patrick, Daniele, Colton and Blake.

Rodger, his parents and brother, Steve, lived in numerous states before finally settling in Florida. He graduated from Oviedo High School in 1969, worked in construction all over the State of Florida, and in 1975 began working as a carpenter for the City of Winter Park, Florida. In 1977, he became a Reserve Officer for the City of Winter Park Police Department and became a full-time Patrol Officer in 1978 making $5.34 per hour! He selflessly and eagerly dedicated himself to his police work during his 23 years of service, rising in the ranks from Patrol Officer to Detective in 1984 to Master Patrolman in 1989, as well as being a Field Training Officer and a member of the Hostage Negotiation Team and loved every second of it. He was named Officer of the Year in 1989. He received the Meritorious Police Duty Award in 1991 and the Excellent Police Duty Award in 1992. He also received two Life-Saving Awards and a Medal of Merit. His police service also took him to the golf course, competing in numerous Police Olympics sponsored by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which qualified him several times for the National Police Olympics. He reluctantly retired from the police force in October of 1999, knowing he had the time of his life serving the City of Winter Park and missing his patrol family. Rodger was known and admired for his love of his profession, his quick wit and his infectious smile!

On July 25, 2008, after a ten-year courageous battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and after only being on the transplant list for one week, Rodger "got the call" from the Lung Transplant Team at Shands Hospital-University of Florida, Gainesville, notifying him that they were anxiously awaiting his arrival for his double lung transplant. Upon seeing the caller ID and not knowing the reason for their call, Rodger spontaneously answered the most important call of his lifetime with, “I’m on my way”, thus becoming #425 at the University of Florida. The Transplant Team's response was, "That's what we want to hear." This began Rodger's Gift of Life Journey of gratefulness to his Donor, his Donor’s family, and immense love and respect for his second home and family - Shands Hospital - and the amazing team of loving doctors and nurses who dedicated themselves to Rodger to the very end of his life with all of us. They were always there for Rodger and Susan every step of the way during his successful 9-year Gift of Life. Rodger fought hard and long and never gave up and the Transplant Team worked tirelessly for him and never gave up. The love and gratitude we have for this amazing Shands Family is immeasurable. We will forever be grateful to them.

A service celebrating his life will take place on Sunday, May 7th at Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel, 5000 County Road 46A, Sanford, FL from 11am-12pm with reception to follow.
