"Grace Ostrand passed peacefully on January 9th, 2017 in Wilmington, DE. She was born in Richlands, NC on September 23, 1919 to Roland and Katie Basden.

Throughout her life, Grace sought to live life fully enjoying friends, family, shopping and gardening. She had many jobs and positions beginning in Richmond, VA; Guam; Cherry Point, NC; New Orleans, LA; Fort Sam Houston, TX and retiring from Sunny Point Ocean Terminal, NC in 1979.

After retirement, Grace and her husband, Charles Ostrand, moved to their mountain home in Boones Mill, VA where they enjoyed their life and many friends. In July 2010, she moved to Fremont, NE to be near her husband's childhood home. After her husband's passing she moved to New Bern, NC to be near her sisters and their childhood home in Richlands, NC in February 2012. Grace moved to Wilmington, DE in 2016 to be near her primary caregiver, Mary Pat, where she found comfort and security.

Grace was predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Ostrand (November 2010). She is survived by her two sisters Catherine Barbee and Madge Huff both of Richlands, NC. Children Antoniette Saunders (Farrell) of Gaffney, SC, Judith Ann DeSadier of Metarie, LA, Charles J. Ostrand, Jr (Valerie) of Leavenworth, KS and Mary Pat Urbanik (Stan) of Wilmington, DE. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren."
