Son of Frank and Agnes (nee Kaniecki) Lewandowski.

Husband of Martha "Marge"/"Margie" Pilat, whom Walter wed on 14 June 1941 in St. Patrick's R.C. Church, Baltimore.

Father of Vincent F., Linda P. (Dillman), and Niles D.

Brother of Anthony "Andy" F., Marie (Smeton), Stella E. (Wilson), Edward J., and Helen M. (Piracci).

The birth year appearing on Walter's tombstones inscriptions is the year he always went by, but is not accurate (per his original church birth/baptismal record); he adopted 1919 as his birth year when wanting to enlist young in the military. 1919 thereafter officially stuck and became part of his permanent record.

Walter served in the U.S. Army, in World War II, in the Pacific, working with anti-aircraft weapons. In civilian life he worked, for many years, until retirement, as a supermarket meat manager.

An awards-winning Maryland Public Television (MPT)-produced PBS documentary, "Marge & Walter," focuses on his and wife Margie's life together during Walter's final months of life, as he descended into increasingly poor health.
