Our precious Mom and Grandma, Janice Y. Craft-Addison passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord.
She was born to Stanley Leon "Don" and Sammie Nell Harris Craft, Sr., she was blessed with two siblings, Elizabeth Nell Davis (Jack W.) and Don Craft, Jr. (Dian). They shared many years of love and wonderful holiday celebrations that included her nieces and nephews, Stan, Sherrie , Steve, Kristi and Sam.
Mrs. Craft-Addison is preceded in death by both her loving husband of the last nearly 25 years, Thomas M. Addison (2011) and her youngest daughter, Holly Jan Scoby (2006).
Survivors include her eldest daughter, Elizabeth Elayne Rust (Glenn( and 3 grandchildren; Chase Rust, Adam Rust (Emily) and Lori Gudyka (Michael) with their twins Kennedy and Kassidy being her great granddaughters.\She is also survived by two stepdaughters, Sandra Jenkins (Tim0 and Dawn Brock (Doug) along with five grandchildren, Beau, Melanie, Jennifer, and Andrew; as well as two great grandchildren, Cammi and Grant.
Graduating in 1955, Janice performed as a majorette with the Palestine High School Band and represented the area as Miss Anderson County. Upon moving to Houston in the late 50's, she began a 20 year career owning and operating dance and baton twirling studios in Houston, Deer Park and Palestine. Her students won State Championship titles in both twirling and drill team competitions and performed in parade events around the U.S.
She returned to formal education in 1978, earning both B.S. and M.S Degrees in Secondary Education from the University of Houston/Clear Water in '82 and '84. Her passion and talent for the arts led her to become a middle school art teacher for the next ten years in Marietta and Douglasville, Georgia. During this time, she was honored as Outstanding Art Educator of the Year by the National Art Educators Association. She was often selected to teach workshops and attend simmer internship programs at the nationally acclaimed Savannah College of Art and Design.
Upon her retirement to Hilton Head, S.C. she remained active as a volunteer in the local arts community, hosted sea turtle night walks with the Coastal Conservation League and enjoyed travel to distant beaches and mountains. In 2012, she returned to Friendswood, Texas to live close to her daughter and family.
Graveside services will be held under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
