OBITUARY: STEVEN FRANK TALBERT
Steve Talbert went to be with Jesus on May 3, 2017 at 66 years of age. He was born on February 3, 1951 in Coalinga, CA to Lester and Gladys Talbert, who lovingly awaited him in Heaven.
Lester and Gladys deeply instilled in Steve the values of honesty and integrity. Steve believed in putting others' needs before his own and truly possessed a servant's heart.
Steve is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rhonda, together with their four children: daughter Katie (husband James) Farmer, son Jonathan (wife Storme) Boles, daughter Stephanie (husband Gabe) Meraz, and daughter Sarah. He adored his eight grandchildren: Shelby Kichline, Kinsey and Ashlyn Farmer, Apollo and Jupiter Boles, Gabriel, Jeremiah, and Angela Meraz and recently celebrated the birth of his first great-grandchild, Brison Riggs. He is also survived by brother Larry (wife Joanne) Talbert and sister Diane (husband Tom) Camara. Extended family includes his father and mother-in-law Richard and Mary Finch as well as brothers-in-law Brian Finch, Alan (wife Penny) Finch, Ben (wife Michelle) Finch and many nieces and nephews.
Steve grew up in Coalinga and, as a child, enjoyed many family trips to Morro Bay where he made so many wonderful memories year after year. Into adulthood, this remained his fondest vacation spot. He especially loved introducing Morro Bay to his grandchildren as the fourth generation to visit there.
Later he lived in Oakhurst, CA near Yosemite National Park where he began employment with the United States Forest Service.
Thereafter he was transferred to Lufkin, Texas where he completed his 32 year career of dedicated service, initially as Timber Sales Administrator and later as Fleet Manager for Texas.
He loved wood and trees all his life. Some of his favorite times were outings to cut firewood, which he tended to collect rather than burn. He could look at his woodpile and recall the place and year where that section of the stack had been cut.
While living in Lufkin, Steve attended Denman Avenue Baptist Church, growing in his faith and developing many life-long friendships. Additionally, he invested several years as a volunteer with Hospice.
Upon retirement in 2009, he, Rhonda, and Sarah moved to Kennewick, WA to begin a new chapter of life. Steve loved family and desired Rhonda to be near her mother and father during their senior years.
He pursued ministry with the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy, going into the county jail weekly to lead a Bible study and mentor inmates.
He loved South Hills Church and was recently elected as an elder.
Steve enjoyed nurturing flocks of quail which flourished with the buckets of feed he consistently supplied. He liked a good afternoon nap with his cat Buddy.
Family gatherings were often lively as Steve told his embellished tales. He had a love of sports and enjoyed watching them with family.
He loved dark chocolate, homemade tacos, and fish and chips from Morro Bay.
Most of all, he loved Jesus and sought to demonstrate His love to others.
Visitation will be held at South Hills Church in Kennewick on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 10:00 until 11:45 followed by a memorial service starting at Noon.
A second memorial will be held at Chapel Grace Baptist Church in Coalinga, CA on May 16, 2017 followed by burial at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Coalinga, CA.
