Mary was the daughter of John Whittier and his wife, Abigail Hussey Whittier. She was a sister of the poet John Greenleaf Whittier.

Mary and Jacob Caldwell married on Jan. 29, 1828 in Haverhill, Mass.

Husband was Jacob Caldwell 1/4/1795-2/18/1851; his parents were Enoch and Ruth (Chase) Caldwell.

Second marriage was to Robert O. Patten on Sept. 1, 1869 in Salisbury, Mass. Mary and Robert were both 25 years old.
Robert was the son of Orlando and Ann Patten; Robert was a carriage manufacturer.

Elizabeth W. Patten who married John H. Clement on 10/2/1907

Robert G. Patten who married Myra Hawley on 11/18/1894 in Amesbury, MA.


Mary Elizabeth Caldwell Stevens Patten died July 26, 1887 Haverhill, MA, of Phthisis Pulm, age 46 years, 6 months.
