The Fulton Journal; February 7, 1907
Last Saturday death claimed one of Callaway's best men and an honored citizen in the person of Mr. P. B. Gingrich, at his home near the C. B.Church south of town. Mr. Gingrich was apparently in fairly good health up to a few hours before his death. Through nearly 80 years old he was still a very active man and when stricken with what was thought to be heart trought he was at the barn looking after his stock. He fell to the floor of the barn and was unconscious for a short time. When he recovered his consciousness he went to the house. A second attack came in a short time, resulting in his death.
The deceased was one of the best all around men we ever knew. He was devoted to his home and family and was the central part of one of Callaway's delightful and happy homes. Uncle Peter, as he was familiary known, was revered and loved by all who knew him. As a citizen he was honest, upright and manly, full of charity and good deeds toward his fellowman. If he ever had an enemy it was not his fault for he was pain-taking at all times to render unto his fellowman more than justice would have demanded. No man ever had a better neighbor or a better friend than was Uncle Peter Gingrich. His departure brings to his family and the community in which he lived, an irreparably loss.
The funeral was conducted at the home Tuesday morning and the remains were tenderly laid away in the new cemetary.
Besides a devoted wife, sons and daughters as follows survive him: John Gingrich of this county, William Gingrich of Beatrice, Nebraska, Mrs. Frank Harner of Nevada, Mrs. John Gorman, Mrs. Ben Beaven, Mrs. Noah Hill and Mrs. Samuel Wilson, all of this county.
The Journal extends sympathy to the bereaved members of the family.
