Joseph R. “Joe” Beard, 89, of Rockford, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at home surrounded by loving family after a long illness. Heavens gates opened for him. Born May 28, 1923, in Ardmore, Okla.; the son of Joseph R. Sr. and Nanny M. (Bennet) Beard. Served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Timberwolf under General Patton. He married Bonnie Burd July 30, 1966, in Rockford. Before retiring, Joe owned Beards Mobile Home Service and Village Mobile Home Sales. Member of New Milford United Methodist Church, Ken-Rock Rec Council, V.F.W., and American Legion. He was a charter member of New Milford Lions Club, and a former member of New Milford Fire Auxiliary. Joe loved God, his family, his many friends, and his little dog, Sadie. He enjoyed gardening, making doll houses, craft shows, and playing the harmonica. He loved helping others and could fix almost anything that was a challenge to others. He is survived by his wife; Four Daughters; Nine Grand-children; Eight Great-Grandchildren.

Predeceased by his son, David; and siblings, Gladys, Virgil, Edward, Lovell, and Jewel.

Joe's family would like to thank OSF Hospice for their loving care. Funeral service will be at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013.
