Mr. Burgess died May 14, 1999.

He was born March 11, 1926, in Goree to the late Remus and Orpah Burgess. He moved to Hale Center in 1928 where he grew up and graduated from high school. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and farmed in the Hale Center area for many years.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He married Alice Mozelle Fleming. She died in 1967. (Find A Grave contributor david&johna has made a suggestion: I noticed a typo (obituary/biography)- she (his wife) died in 1997, not 1967. *[Also see Find A Grave memorial]) (Find A Grave contributor Shawn The Grave Hunter has made a suggestion: He later married Donna Burgess.)

Survivors include a daughter, Sherrel Mulvany of Lubbock; two sons, Donald L. Burgess of Plains and Jason Burgess of Temple; and six grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
