YOUNGSTOWN – Services were held on Saturday Mar. 2, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. with Msgr. Peter M. Polando officiating at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers for Carmela Day, born the daughter of Peter and Sarah (Rippey) Christopher on May 17, 1921. She left this life peacefully at the age of 91 on Feb. 28, 2013.

Carmela grew up in the Scienceville OH area, and was a homemaker for most of her life.

She was an avid bingo player, liked playing cards and enjoyed cooking and baking.

During World War II she was employed as one of the so called “Rosie the Riveters” at Youngstown Steel Door.

She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband John Day in 1966; and by her seven siblings Peter, Harold, John, Jean, Louis, James and Marguerite.

Those left to honor her memory are sons John (Anne) of Pasadena TX, Dennis (Cynthia) of Poland OH and Gary (Marsha) of Weathersfield Township Trumbull County OH. She also leaves seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a cherished amount of nieces, nephews and other life acquaintances that will surely miss her.

Friends called on Saturday at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The family thanks the staff of the east wing of the Liberty Health Care Center and Grace Hospice for her recent care and comfort.

Memorial contributions were made in Carmela’s name to Grace Hospice, 7206 Market St., Boardman OH 44512.
