BATAVIA, IL - Msgr. Richard G. Fitzsimmons, 83, formerly of Lincoln, Ill.; and the Mendota area, died June 16, 2014, at his residence in Batavia.
He was born June 20, 1930, in Lincoln, Ill., to Joseph Emmette and Mary Catherine (Fahey) Fitzsimmons. He attended St. Patrick School in Lincoln, Ill., 1936-1946; St. Bede Academy, Peru, Ill., 1946-1948; St. Bede College, Peru, Ill., 1948-1950; St. Ambrose College, Davenport, Iowa; 1050-1952; and Our Lady of Lake Seminary, Mundelein, Ill., 1952-1956. He was ordained May 27, 1956. He served as Assistant Pastor at St. Roch's, LaSalle, 1956; Pasto at St. Patricks, Wapella and St. Mary's, Downs, 1968, Victor Adjutor at St. Roch's, LaSalle, 1970; Pastor at Resurection, LaSalle, 1979; St. Mary's, Westville, 1984; Holy Cross, Mendota, 1988, Colege of Consultors, 1990; Pastor at Holy Cross, Mendota and Sts. Peter and Paul, Peterstown, 1991; Victar, LaSalle Vicariate, 1992; Prelate of Honor, 1993; Senior Priest status and Pastor Emeritus, 2000.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and caregivers, the Albright Family of Batavia, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Joe, Bob, Pat, Tommy and Jack Fitzsimmons, and loving companions, Martha and Mary.
