He worked in the woods, trapped for fur and worked as an assistant superintendent at the prison camp. In 1946, he built Bud's Bar, which was lined with mounts of mule deer, white tail deer, elk and caribou; they also served meals, prepared by his wife Nellie.
They raised 12 children.
