Virginia H. Clapp, 96, of Montross, passed away at The Orchard on May 18, 2017. She was born in her grandparent’s home in Montross on February 16, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Richard Hatcher and Cora Elizabeth Mann Harris. She was the owner of The Harris Store, a lifetime member of Andrew Chapel UMC, a Charter Member of the Chantilly Chapter NSDAR, and a Trustee Emeritus of the Westmoreland County Museum. She was very active in Montross and Westmoreland County in historic preservation and other capacities during her life. She is survived by: son, Richard H. Clapp of MD, sister, Mary Ellen Greenhill (Clarence) and her daughter, Elizabeth, of KY, and a first cousin, John S. Dawson, Jr. (Margaret) of VA. A funeral service will be held on May 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Andrew Chapel UMC, Montross with inurnment in the Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to: Andrew Chapel UMC Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 237, Montross, VA 22520 or the Westmoreland County Museum, P. O. Box 247, Montross, VA 22520.
