George was born in Osceola township, to Thomas James SCANNELL & Mary Isabelle FOY. His wife was Viola Josephene Eugena MERJAY.

Sheboygan Press, Mon. May 17, 1971, p. 18, c. 5. George H. Scannell, 83, of Fond du Lac, a former Sheboygan area cheesemaker, died Sunday night at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac. He was born Oct. 18, 1887, in the Town of Osceola (Fond du Lac County), a son of the late Thomas and Mary Foy Scannell. He was a cheesemaker for 46 years until retiring in 1952. Mr. Scannell also taught school in his earlier years in the Town of Forest (Fond du Lac County), and at Kewaskum. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Surviving are four sons, Leo and Thomas of Fond du Lac, Robert of Kewaskum and James of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Twohig of Armstrong and Mrs. Allen (Margaret) Guell of Campbellsport; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Thomas P. of Armstrong and Edward of Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be held Wednesday with a funeral Mass at 11:15 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fond du Lac, Father Ralph Gross, pastor, celebrant, following family rites at 10:30 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, Fond du Lac. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery there. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
