James was the son of James A and Mary E Branham Harvey. He married Martha Sue (Susie) Harvey on the 9th day of March 1899 in Fayette County, West Virginia. The link to their marriage record at the West Virginia Archives. The couple resided in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky most of their married life. They do not appear to have had any children, but at times she they had nieces and nephews living with them.
