Prayer service for Jimmy Allen Porter will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2017, in the Benson Memorial Chapel with Deacon Lloyd Menz officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Mark Mason officiating. Services are under direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Mr. Porter died May 16, 2017, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Born Aug. 28, 1949, in Clinton to Ray and Twyla Mae Porter, Jimmy moved with his family to Joplin, Mo., and later settled in Oklahoma City. He was a standout athlete and scholar all through his school years.

In 1968 Jimmy graduated from Southeast High School and then the University of Central Oklahoma in 1972 with a degree in education and physical education. He taught science and coached football at Southeast, later teaching at Capitol Hill High School where he also coached baseball.

After retiring, Jimmy continued as a substitute teacher at Classen School of Advanced Studies. He loved time outdoors, fishing or golfing, especially with his sons and grandsons. He loved the adventure of travel, to experience diverse cultures and history. He was a friend of Bill W., who changed many lives with his example of compassion.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Paula of Mustang; a son, Ty Porter of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three stepsons and their families, Rob and Catherine Printup, Jon and Tiffany Printup and Geoffrey Printup; and seven grandchildren. He also leaves three sisters, Barbara Emberson of Clearwater, Kan., Joy Day of New Manchester, W.Va., and Pat and Bobby Lewis of Waurika; brother, Eddy and Diane Porter of Corinth, Texas; in-laws, Van and Irene Perkins; two brothers-in-law, Bob and Brenda Perkins and Tim and Jamie Perkins and their children, all of El Reno; and a long list of much-loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Catholic Charities or a charity of your choosing.
