Francis A. Pound, 92, formerly of 37 Bridge St., West Carthage, died Wednesday morning in the skilled nursing unit of Carthage Area Hospital, where he had been a patient since March 31, 2005. Mr. Pound was a retired lineman, working for several contractors for 36 years before retiring in October 1975. He then was a security guard at St. Regis Paper Co., Deferiet, and its successor, Champion International Corp., retiring in August 1989. Born Dec. 5, 1913, in Rossie, son of James F. and Rose Farrell Pound, he attended Rossie and Antwerp schools and Sacred Heart School, Watertown. He married Louise R. Parrillo Aug. 22, 1944, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, West Winfield. After their marriage, the couple moved to West Carthage, where they resided except for a short time when the family lived in Evans Mills. Mr. Pound was a member of Local 1249, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Syracuse. He served in the Army from March 1943 to October 1943. Surviving besides his wife, also a patient at Carthage Area Hospital, are two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna M. Lightholder, Carthage, and Angela M. and Jeffrey Anthony, North Syracuse; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Francis A. and Valerie R., and Thomas B., all of Watertown, Patrick M. and Leana, Nashville, Tenn., and Robert L., Deer Park, Wash.; a sister, Margaret L. Pound, Carthage; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Four brothers, Gerald, Maurice, Frederick and James Harold, and five sisters, Teresa A. Dobson, Alice Raimondo and Ethel, Agnes and Mary Pound, died before him. The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. George F. Maroun, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Scherer Funeral Home. Donations may be made to St. James Heritage Fund.
