James Hayes, 74, Custer Township, Taken by Death.
Funeral services for James P. Hayes, 74, of Custer township, who died Saturday, will be held Tuesday.
The funeral will be at 9:15 a.m. from the Reeves funeral home, Wilmington, to St. Rose's church, Wilmington, for services at 9:30 a.m. Rev. George Kuzma will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wilmington. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 10 p.m., Monday.
The son of the late Phillip and Johanna Hayes, pioneer farmers in the Custer township area, Mr. Hayes died following a lingering illness. His family had sold the farm to the McElvain Strip Mine Coal Co. about 20 years ago but still maintained the family home on the property.
Mr. Hayes was a former employee of the Elwood Ordnance Plant, having retired eight years ago.
He is survived by a sister, Mary, of Custer township, and three brothers, Ambrose, of Chicago, Rev. John J. Hayes of Seattle, Wash., and Leonard, of Custer township.
