SAN DIEGO- San Diego police said Friday there are still no suspects in the homicide of a mechanic who was found shot to death at his Point Loma Shop earlier this week.
Jalal Abou, 63, of Rancho San Diego, who owned Joe's Auto Repair on Rosecrans Street, was killed about 7:25 a.m. Monday, San Diego police said. He died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Medical Examiner's office.
The family is holding a vigil for the slain father of three at the shop on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., his oldest daughter Dr. Janet Abou said.
Abou said the family still does not know the motive for the shooting. "We don't understand what would justify this cowardly act, "Abou said.
Officers are looking for a man, possibly Latino, with short, cropped hair and a stocky build who was driving an older, 4-door dark sedan that was either black or deep green. Homicide Lt. Ernie Herbert said that the crime was not caught on surveillance video.
Janet Abou said the business has been closed all week and the family has not decided if they will keep it or sell it. It will open today for a brief time in order to take care of two customers cars that have been in the shop, Abou said.
Jalal Abou came to the United States from Iraq some 40 years ago. He was one of eight children, as was his wife Amira, so he had a very large extended family, his daughter said.
He had two daughters, Janet, 29 and Elizabeth, 28 and an 18-year-old son Christ. A third daughter died a few years ago.
Elizabeth is engaged to be married in a wedding planned for September, her sister said.
"We're still in shock, just taking it day by day," Abou said.
A wake is scheduled for Monday at 8 p.m. and funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, both at St. Peters Chaldean Catholic Cathedral on Jamacha Way in El Cajon, Abou said.

Rooney said that Rosales is divorced and has several children, and is known to move around. He sometimes stays with his children, and also is known to frequent Tijuana, where he has relatives, and could be in Mexico, Rooney said.
Rosales is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He has access to two vehicles, Roomey said. One is a dark green 1997 Honda Accord with gray primer spots and California license plate 5YRJ935. The other is a white 2000 Ford Explorer, with California License plate 6NZN776.
