Robert William Peery was bord in Glade Spring, Washington County, Viginia, son of Lavonia Ravina Brown and Joseph Stras Peery. He attended school in Tazewell, VA where his teathers included Miss Tillie Whitter. Finishing school in Tazewell, he attended business college in Bristol, VA. While attending business college, he met and married Dorothy Parker Peery, a student at Sullins College in Bristol TN.

After the wedding, thcouple moved to Buchannan, VA where he worked in the bank there. Around 1911, the couple moved to Knoxville, TN where he was cashier in the Bank of Knoxville.

Following the death of their third child ("Little Dorothy") the family moved to New York City where he took a job with the brokerage firm of S. W. Straus.

Following the stock market crash of 1929, the family moved to Chattanooga, TN where was vice-president of the 1st National Bank of Chattanooga.

In 1935, Robert and the family moved to Washington. DC area where he took a job with the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. He retired from government service in 1949.

After retirement, he began building custom homes in the Northern Virginia area until the mid 1960s.
