Gary then opened and ran a restaurant for 6 years in San Jose, called "Mama Tried", and served the best Philly Cheesesteaks on the west coast. During that time he also continued his technical specialist career in network systems at Tymnet in Milpitas, CA, which was bought out by MCI Worldcom in 1998. After 2003, he provided home PC installations in Milpitas and later in the Pasadena area.
His interest in digital media and network applications consumed his spare time when he wasn't joining his friends and fellow Jerry Garcia fans at Grateful Dead concerts. Gary was also an accomplished piano player.
Gary is survived by his son, Robert and sister, Laurie Barlow.
