Madelyne M. Abbott, 85, of Duluth, Minn., died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born in Duluth on July 14, 1918, to Mike and Antoinette (Rich) Colosimo. She attended Denfeld High School. She worked at various jobs; the Corner Store in New Duluth, Ship Yards during World War II, the Hotel Duluth, her brother's restaurant, and at St. Ann's residence as a waitress. Madelyne was a resident of Lake Haven Manor for fourteen years. While there she was ''resident of the year'' and elected queen. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, and the Slovenian Women's Union Branch 33, she was ''mother of the year'' in 1995, with the Slovenian Women's Union. Madelyne assumed many roles in life. Her most important, being mother and father to children. ''Una Mamma Italiana E, Una Benedizione di do.'' She loved playing cards, shopping, going out to eat, and being with people.

Madelyne was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Abbott; her parents; a brother, Sandean Colosimo; and a sister, Lillian Scalise.

She is survived by her son, Joe; his wife and her special daughter-in-law, Pat; her daughter Helene ''Sissy'', and Dick Gillen, who was like another son; brothers, Peter J. and John Colosimo, both of Duluth; several nieces and nephews, and cousins, her extended family, the residents and staff at Lake Haven Manor, and her special friend Julia Willis.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 .am. on Thursday, Jan. 29, in St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church. Rosary Recitation will be held at 9:45 a.m. by the Slovenian Women's Union. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Superior. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Lake Haven Manor Bus Fund. You may sign the guest book at Legacy.com.
