Barbara Curtis Grandy, longtime resident of Montpelier, passed away on May 23, 2017 in Provo, Utah, of causes incident to age. She was born in Payson, Utah, on June 27, 1923, and grew up there, graduating from Payson High School in 1941. She then attended and graduated from Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) in Logan, Utah, where she met and dated Grant Grandy of Paris, Idaho. Their courtship was lengthened out by Grant’s military service during World War II, but when Grant returned from the Pacific theater toward the end of the war they were married for time and eternity in the Logan LDS Temple on July 25, 1945. They made their first home in Los Angeles, California, and then in Montpelier, Idaho, where they raised their family of six children.

Barbara was active in the LDS Church and had a wide circle of friends in the community. She taught for 28 years at the A.J. Winters Elementary School. Interested in the world, her open, adventurous spirit took her to Hawaii, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Israel, Germany, France, Switzerland, and Italy. At age 74 she served an 18-month mission in Houston, Texas, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is fondly remembered by those who knew her, particularly her children and grandchildren, all of whom enjoyed visiting her whenever they returned to Bear Lake Valley.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Grant, her parents Heber and Mary Anna McWilliams Curtis, her sister Maxine McMurdie, and many family members and loved ones with whom she is now joyfully reunited. She is survived by her six children, Curtis (Diana) Grandy, Paul (Brenda) Grandy, David (Janet) Grandy, Sheila (John) Matthews, Sherman (Kate) Grandy, and Norell Grandy, as well as 21 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Schwab Mortuary in Montpelier from 11 am to 12 noon on Saturday, June 3, 2017. The memorial service will immediately follow in the mortuary chapel. She will then be buried alongside her husband Grant in the Paris, Idaho cemetery.

WHAT IS A MOM
A mom is one of life's best gifts,
Someone to treasure all life through,
She's caring and loving,
Thoughtful and true,
Someone who is always a special part of your life,
Someone who holds a prime place in your heart,
She's a mentor, a confident and also a friend,
Someone on whose love you can depend.
A mom always has your best interests at heart,
She's someone so dear and so good,
She's a blessing, she's a gift,
She's a treasure like no other,
She's someone that is truly wonderful.
Wherever you go, and whatever you do,
A mom's love will always see you through,
A mom is truly invaluable,
Indispensable and unforgettable.
I wouldn't want anyone but you,
And that's why I'm so grateful,
that life picked you for my mom.

IN MEMORY OF MY MOM
You were a precious gift from God above,
so much beauty, grace and love.
You touched our hearts in so many ways,
your smile so bright even on the bad days.
You heard God's whisper calling you home,
you didn't want to go and leave us alone.
You loved us so much, you held on tight,
till all the strength was gone and you could no longer fight.
He had called your name twice before,
you knew you couldn't make him wait anymore.
So you gave your hand to God and slowly drifted away,
knowing that with our love we will be together again some day.

MOTHER
You may own a million dollars,
But your, are the poorest in the land
if you don't have your beloved mom
to clasp your lonely hand.
Though her smile is gone forever
and her hand you cannot touch
still we have many memories
of our mom we loved so much.

This is our keepsake, with which
We'll never part;
God has her in his keeping-
We have her in are hearts.
So, You who have a mother
Cherish her with care
For you'll never know the heartache
'Til she's no longer there.'
