Wayne Elmer Dawes, a longtime Yale resident, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in Sapulpa at the age of 91. Wayne was born on October 10, 1925 in Yale, Oklahoma to the late Paul and Inez (Skeen) Dawes.

He grew up in the Quay/Yale area, graduating from Quay High School in 1945. After high school, he began working for Sears and JC Penney’s. Wayne married Pauline Burnworth in 1948, to this union Nancy, Jerry, Judy, Patti, and Connie were born. They lived in Stillwater, Kansas and then Perry. He worked for Charles Machine -Ditch Witch from 1965 to 1978. Wayne later married Lawanda Johnston on March 7, 1979 in Yankton, South Dakota. They made their home in Yale. He attended the Assembly of God in Yale. Wayne worked for Quapaw trucking and several other trucking companies throughout the years. He enjoyed talking, fishing and visiting with others. They were married until her death in 2016.

Wayne is survived by his son Jerry Dawes and wife Kum Cha of Perry, daughters Nancy Bush of Perry, Connie Dawes of Stillwater, Judy Hicks and husband Kyle of Sapulpa, Patti Taylor and husband Bruce of Carney, brother Dale Dawes of Warner Robins, Georgia, sister Katherine Hicks of Sapulpa, grandchildren Lonnie Lovelace, Ronnie Karcher, Leah Marie Furman, Keith Taylor, Shannon Taylor, Jason Taylor, Alan Bargerstock and Johnetta Gipe, and 20 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Stacy St. Clair, brothers Melvin and Gilbert Dawes.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Assembly of God Church in Yale. Rev. Randell Newby will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Stillwater, Oklahoma.
