William was the son of William A. and Ellen (Douglass) Acheson, both natives of Ohio. He had an older sister Estelle Annie, born Sept. 12, 1874, who wed William B. Holland and had four children. Also younger siblings: Rose E.; Clarence A., born Jan. 23, 1882, a 1907 graduate of Drake University, who wed Lulu Heffelfinger; and Roscoe C. Acheson.
William graduated from Drake University in 1900. He taught school two years and married Mamie McCauley and they owned a farm in Washington township, Polk Co. at first, then moving to Ames, managing his farms. Their children:
1. William Donald, b. 12 March 1906 in Washington Township
2. Margorie A. , b. 1907
3. Harriet Melba, b. 28 Sept. 1908 in Maxwell
4. Elinor May, b. 03 May 1911 in Ames

Ames, Iowa. Services for W.B.Acheson, 69, a native of Polk county but who had lived here since 1913, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at the Adams mortuary. Burial will be here.
Mr. Acheson died Tuesday night at Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines following a six month illness. Born in Washington township, Polk county, he was graduated from Drake University in 1900. He taught school two years, then farmed in Washington township until coming here, managing his farms in recent years.
He had been a member of the Ames city council since 1938. He was active in the AAA and other farm programs and in Story county and state Democratic organizations.
Mr. Acheson is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. C.E. Morrison, Ames, Mrs. A.H.Koch, Wynnewood, Penn., and Mrs. W.D. Connelly, Fairlington, Va.; a son, W.D. Acheson, Des Moines, Maxwell. Also C.A. Acheson, Conrad, Mont.
