Lee Cornwell
Lee Cornwell, 90, of Winfield, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.
Born Nov. 17, 1908, in Valene, Ind., he was the son of William "Bert" and Ora Lockhart Cornwell. On May 25, 1929, he married Letha Vandemark at Rock Island, Ill.
Mr. Cornwell attended Winfield High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Before retiring, he was a truck driver that delivered lime to farmers.
He was a member of Winfield American Legion, a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans, and member of Winfield First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Cornwell of Branson, Mo., and Neil Cornwell of Winfield; one daughter, Marlene Evans of Philo, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Esther Haendler of Burlington and Juanita Kinney of West Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield. There will be no family visitation.
The funeral for Mr. Cornwell will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, with the Rev. Todd Smith officiating. Burial will be in Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
