STECK, DWAYNE R. Born August 30, 1930 to Ray and Hazel Steck in Miles City, Montana passed away suddenly on February 13, 2007 in San Angelo, Texas during set up of the "Lady Bugs" ride for the stockshow Rodeo.
He spent his entire life in the Outdoor Amusement Business and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
Dwayne owned and operated amusement rides on the midway of the State Fair of Texas for the past 40 years. Traveling the U.S. and Canada, he operated many state and county fairs and Canadian exhibitions. He was the former owner of Penny Whistle Park and Carousel Cue Club in Dallas.
Dwayne was a member of the OABA, SLA ; past president and lifetime member of the Lone Star Showmans Club; and member of the Music Box Society.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Beverly, daughter Susie Steck Pelino, son-in-law Nick Pelino, grandsons Gabriel and Daniel Pelino. In addition, Dwayne will be missed by many of those that loved and knew him as well as his extended family and friends in the amusement industry.
Visitation will be at 12:00 Wendsday February 21, 2007 with service following at 2:00 p.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel. Interment at DFW National Cemetery, arrangements pending. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the State Fair of Texas Livestock Scholarship or the Lone Star Showmans Club scholarship.
