Vincent A. Mackesy, 96, a resident of Monument Beach, Ma. for 63 yrs,died on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Falmouth Hospital.

He was born August 27, 1913 in Lynn, MA.,
a son of the late William and Clara (Carmody) Mackesy .

He was a Bourne official for many years,
serving on the Bourne Zoning Board of Appeals and as a trustee of theBourne Memorial Community Building. He was also civil defense director for the town of Bourne as well as Commander of the Leonard Wood American Legion Post, where he helped to establish Legion Baseball at the Post. Vincent was also a call fireman at the Monument Beach fire station for many years. He established the Monument Shade Company and was the past Commander of the Cape Cod chapter of M.O.W.W. (Military Order of World Wars). Mr. Mackesy was the last surviving member of a group of five officers sent to Camp Edwards to begin the design of roads and infrastructure in 1935. A member of the Yankee division of the National Guard stationed in Salem, MA. He attended the ribbon cutting when the Bourne Bridge opened in 1933 and was a CCC Camp Commander in Frederick, Maryland in 1941.

After Pearl Harbor he was ordered to Fort Sill,
Oklahoma where he was an Artillery Instructor.
A veteran of World War II, he was discharged in 1945 with the rank of First Lieutenant.

In 1955 Mr. Mackesy was employed to oversee new construction at the Woods Hole Fish and Wildlife Service Facility after Hurricane Carol destroyed it in 1954 and retired in 1973 as Acting Administrative Director.

He was preceded in death by his wife of
61 years, Barbara R. (Roberts) Mackesy.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Virginia of Norton, MA., five granddaughters Helen Poole, Lisa Nelson, and Heather Mackesy all of Norton, Jennifer Mackesy and Kristin Grenier of Bourne.
Five great-grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Jordan, Jared, and Nicole, as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Brooke and Noah. Also surviving are two sisters, Claire Mackesy of Lynn, and Ursula Saulnier of Tennessee.

Private graveside services will be held
at St. Marys Cemetery in Lynn, MA.
