Sarah was the daughter of William Akers & Abigail/Abagail Russell.

1863 - Dec 28: Sarah's husband, Thomas, joined the Civil War effort (27 Jan 1864 Co E, 13th Regiment 131st Ind Calvery). Sarah would have been pregnant with their 8th child.

1865, June 20: Thomas died at New Orleans, LA in the military barracks leaving his wife Sarah and their 8 children all under the age of 14. Sarah and the children were "taken in" by various families in the Washington County, Indiana area. Sarah and her older children were either servants or farm hands.

1868, July 29: FOLD3 reports: Sarah Arbuckle living in Organ Spring/Oard Spring(Scott County, Indiana) as drawing a Civil War pension from the Death of Thomas M. Arbuckle, to include herself and 8 children whose Memorials are attached below.

1870: Census lists Sarah as a Domestic Servant in the home of William & Susan Clark and their children in Washington County, Indiana.

1880: Census shows Sarah living with her son James Crawford Arbuckle and his wife Lucy Clark Arbuckle in Shelby County, Indiana. Sarah's daughter, Florence Bell, is living next door with her husband Edward Graham & infant son John Graham.

1896: Dec 4 The Indianapolis Journal Newspaper lists those drawing Civil War Pensions. Sarah Arbuckle, living in Oard Springs(Scott County, IN), as drawing a Civil War pension (copy can be found on Newspapers.com)
