First son of Laura & Lester Benavidez and a native Californian,
Fred Graduated 1939 from Polytechnic High School in Los Angeles.
He excelled in sports and went on to play pro-football for the San Diego Bombers.
Fred married his High School sweetheart, Dorothy Primeau in 1940 and were married for 68 years.
He served in US Navy Submarine Corp during WWII and was stationed in
SUBIC BAY, PHILIPPINE ISLANDS in the South Pacific.
After the war he became a police officer with LAPD for 28 years.
Retiring in 1975 Fred & Dorothy traveled from Alaska to Washington DC to Mexico until 1984 when Fred took a break from his retirement to work at the 1984 Olympic Games
in Los Angeles and enjoyed attending the Opening Ceremony and other Olympic events.
A Mass was held at St. Bernardine Catholic Church in San Bernardino, CA
followed by a family gathering that included a slide show of family pictures.
April 26 2008 a wake was held for family and friends on the beach, a place he loved so much.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy and their daughters Carole Kelley (Dan), Trudy Hill (Bob), Michelle (Genie Ideman), & Laura Medina(Mike).
13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren & 3 great great grandchildren
