Yvonne Averill

Cooperstown, NY--Yvonne Averill of Cooperstown
passed away Feb. 14, 2005.

Yvonne was born June 13, 1921, Missoula, MT,
and grew up on a small farm as an avid tomboy
and cowgirl with her own horse and animals.

She attended school in Missoula and after
graduating went on to work and took college-
level study in home economics and management.

She met her husband, E. David Averill, and
they were married in 1942. Yvonne and David
parented 5 sons, Gil, Clive, Timothy, Henry
and Peter. David's various jobs and pursuits
took them to Spokane and Seattle, Wash. and
during WWII, they both worked for Boeing
Aircraft in Denver, Col., Yvonne was a "Rosie
the Riveter" and relished her work.

They returned to Montana after the war and
David continued his work and studies as an
artist and teacher.

In the mid-1950 they moved to the Blackfeet
Indian Reservation, where Yvonne enjoyed and
active social circle of friends.

In 1964, Yvonne and her family came to
Cooperstown for David to study in the cultural
program at Fenimore House.

He became a memorable teacher at Cooperstown
High School and Yvonne supported his work and
raised her family.

They were active the the local Christian
Science Society and continued their faith
throughout their lives.

David passed on in 1987, and Yvonne enjoyed
rejuvenation in her life, helping raise a
little girl through adolescence and adopting
several barn cats for her household companions.
She capably tended to her rental apartments
and was renown for her own lawn care on her
riding mower. Her sons kept up with regular
visits.

She enjoyed a close circle of firends and her
women's clubs, and was known for her holiday
decor and meals. Her backyard crows, birds
and squirrels will miss her daily visits. All
who knew her were blessed with her love and
kindness.

Yvonne died peacefully and tranquilly with
her son Timothy at her bedside.

their daughters Heather and Ashley, Timothy
Averill, Henry and Cheryl Averill; Peter
Averill, his sons, Luke and Sam, Gorkem
