Amory - Sgt. Kyle Clayton Thomas, MSARNG, 24, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017, at Fort Irwin, California, a remote facility 37 miles northeast of Barstow in the High Mojave Desert midway between San Bernardino and Las Vegas.

Born on December 10, 1992, in Amory, he is a son of Eddie (Sheryl) Thomas and JoAnn (Hachemi) Boussouar.

The Funeral Service for SGT Kyle C. Thomas, MSARNG, will be held at 2 PM, Friday, June 9 at First Baptist Church, Amory.

His Graveside Service with Military Honors will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be members of the Mississippi National Guard Honor team. Honorary pallbearers will be Mississippi Army National Guard; Amory High School Class of 2011; Bradley and Chandler Riggs; Ryan Hill; Pallas Fair; Dustin Parker; Jake Sloan; Nathan Zaragosa.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday, at First Baptist Church, Amory.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Amory. A graveside service with Military Honors will follow in Haughton Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church.

The State of Mississippi has lost another dedicated Soldier who volunteered to serve in the MSARNG to protect our country.

Sgt Kyle Clayton Thomas was killed Monday night, 29 May 2017 during a training exercise in the Mojave Desert of California.

He was assigned to the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team in Tupelo and died while participating in a large-scale training operation at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California.

ARRIVAL: Tentatively scheduled for Wednesday 7 June 2017, the PGR has been requested to escort the E.E. PICKLE FUNERAL HOME coach and Sgt Thomas' family from the funeral home to the AMERICAN AIRLINES FREIGHT TERMINAL; Memphis, Tennessee, then escort Sgt Thomas back home to the funeral home in Amory, Mississippi.

VISITATION: Thursday 8 June 2017 at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH; 303 1st Ave.; Amory, MS 38821 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday 9 June 2017 at 2:00 PM at the church.

FINAL ESCORT: Immediately following the funeral service, the PGR will escort Sgt Thomas to HAUGHTON MEMORIAL PARK and provide a silent US Flag line for the graveside service with full military honors.

NOTES: The arrival date and time is tentative, we expect confirmation by Monday 5 June 2017.

Kyle was the youngest child with two older sisters; he grew up the center of his sister's' attention that spoiled him according to his sister. His sister Joni said the “he was the light of our family.” She called him "The Golden Child."

He was a "loving father" who was "funny, loving and goofy.” He loved his nieces and nephew and was nicknamed "Unkie Monkey" by the children in the family. Everyone around him lit up in his presence. He loved his family so much, and his family loved him He especially loved his nieces and nephews. He played with them like a little kid. He was going to be an amazing father."

Funeral arrangements are being handled by E.E. Pickett Funeral Home in Amory.
