Virginia “Ginger” Lee Ahlemeyer Russell, 89, of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away April 28, 2017. The daughter of Arthur Darrell Mast and Ethel Mae Grant Mast Davis, Virginia was born July 19, 1927 in Danville, Illinois.

Virginia worked as the bookkeeper for the Lake County Mental Health Association in northern Indiana where her late husband Charles was director. She served as the secretary at the Wertz Memorial EUB Church in Columbus, Indiana. Also, while living in Columbus, she worked as a secretary at Arvin Industries.

Ginger was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Zephyrhills and the United Methodist Women; member of Good Sam’s Camping Club, participating in the park activities and doing their calendar of events. As a homemaker, she took great pride in her home, enjoyed visiting her family while camping and enjoyed playing board games with her family.

Virginia is survived by her children, W. Bruce (Cindy) Ahlemeyer of Indianapolis, David (Peggy) Ahlemeyer of Tucson, AZ, and Susan (Carl) Ortega of Lansing, IL and Scott (Tina) Russell of Tampa, FL; stepchildren, Ronald (Lori) Russell of Middlebury, IN, Larry (Shirley) Russell of Glendale, AZ, Brian (Terry) Russell of Beech Grove, Charlene (Ron) Mann of Louisville, KY and Brenda (Mark) VanFossen of Greenwood; her sister, Darla Case of New Port Richey, FL; 25 grandchildren - Alexa (Steve), Matthew (Sarah), Brandi (Kent) Rhett (Crystal), Ashley (Wes), Bryce (Whitney), Blake (Jill), Hollis (Mark), Steven (Alexa), Ryun (Mandy), Brandon, Wendy (Brian), Aaron (Lara), Megan, Jamie (Steve), Bradley (Annette), Adam (Amanda), Tom (Amanda), Matt (Aly), Tommy, Joshua, Jessica, Merissa, Elisha and Elizabeth (CP); and 27 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her first husband, William F. Ahlemeyer and her second husband, Charles A. Russell and a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Jack Akin.

A service to celebrate Virginia’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m., June 11, 2017 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home – 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
