Retired Illinois State Police Major, Glenn C. Fredrickson died March 5, 2023.
He was born Christmas Day, 1927 in Princeton to Mandus and Martha (Henman) Fredrickson. He married Iona M. Puetz April 20, 1952 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Princeton. They had a daughter, Jerri. She married Lance Wojciechowski.
Glenn graduated from Princeton Township High School, Class of 1946. He then entered the United States Army, serving three years. He spent his last two years as a commissioned officer assigned to the New York Port of Embarkation.
Glenn joined the Illinois State Police, May 30, 1950, graduating with Academy Class 10. He was eventually assigned as the first commander of District 5A LaSalle (current day District 17). During his tenure, he also worked as operations commander of the Department of Criminal Investigation, Springfield and then as commander of District 5, Joliet.
Glenn's last state police assignment at the rank of Major, Area I Commander in charge of the 5 state police districts in northern Illinois.
Post retirement, he returned to work with the Illinois Attorney General's Office, supervising downstate investigators.
He then took a position with the City of Peru City as a member of the police commission and later as the of chief of police.
Glenn held positions as a board member of the Illinois Emergency Radio System and was an appointed member of the Governor's Terrorism Task Force. He was the early advocate of the 911 merger of the local communication systems of the Illinois Valley.
He is survived by his two grandchildren, Claire Wojciechowski of New York City and Nicholas Wojciechowski of Peru; one sister-in-law, Cheryl Puetz of rural Lostant and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Iona; his daughter, Jerri Wojciechowski; his son-in-law, Lance Wojciechowski; his sister, Helen Blythe and brothers and sisters-in-law, Darwin Blythe, Daniel and Coletta Durdan, Rodger and Jillian Puetz, Richard Puetz and Ronald and Margaret Puetz.
