He graduated from the Cincinnati College of Medicine and surgery in March 1861.He joined the Ohio 30th V.I. and rose to the rank of of 1st Lieutenant then he became Surgeon of the Ohio 68th before he resigned fully due to his health.
In 1865 he began his practice in Grandview, Edgar County. In 1875 Dr. Massie came to Paris, Edgar County and began another practice.
