Joseph E. Cathey, 80, of Andrews, died early Sunday morning, Nov. 7, 1993, in a Bryson City care center. He was a native of Swain County, but had lived in Cherokee County most of his life.

He was the son of the late Andrew R. and Corie Green Cathey. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired farmer and was a member of the VFW Post 7620.

Surviving are a sister, Emma Lee Sigman of Charleston, S.C.; six nieces and six nephews.

Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1993, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home in Andrews. Rev. Homer Wilson officiated. Burial was in the Valley River Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Andrews VFW Post 7620.

Nephews served as pallbearers.

Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews, was in charge of all arrangements.
