David Vincent Gates, 74, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
He was born on October 28, 1942, in Fergus Falls, the son of Edward and Claire (Melcher) Gates. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Fergus Falls. David graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1961 and attended Moorhead State College graduating in 1971.
David served in the United States Navy as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic Apprentice from 1962 until 1964.
On June 17, 1967, he married Karen Marcott in Forest Lake.
David worked as a Safety and Security Manager for Fingerhut in St. Cloud from 1974 until his retirement in 1987. In 1989, he became the owner/operator of Birchwood Terrace Mobile Home Park in Wyoming, MN.
David enjoyed drawing, long-distance biking, traveling via motorhome, and taking pictures.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Karen.
Survivors include his children, Susan (Brad) Donabauer of Moorhead, and Jason Gates of Inver Grove Heights; three grandchildren, Ryan, Brady, and Carter Donabauer; one brother, Joe (Beth) Gates of Phoenix, AZ; and nieces, Lori (James) Willden, and Lisa Gates.
