Galen Julius Ours, age 84, of Dorcas, WV passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 7, 2017. He was born December 24, 1932 Petersburg, WV and was a son of the late Charles Monroe Ours and Mernie Elizabeth (Thorne) Ours.
In addition to his parents, Galen was preceded in death by one sister, Janie Ours Sites; five brothers, Cletus Ours, Oscar Ours, William Ours, Leon Ours and Glenn Ours, Sr.

Galen served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. He was a member of the American Legion Post 78. He was a truck driver for Rocco Feeds for 7 years. He worked for Joyce Pipeline Construction for 1 year and was an operator for Stone & Webster. He was a mechanic for National Construction Company and was supervisor for Williford Excavating for 6 years. Galen was a loader operator for R.H. Armstrong and Sites Excavating. He worked for Kesner Engineering and Survey for 27 years. He was an operator, mechanic and truck driver for Bean’s Lime & Stone for 4 years. Galen retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways after 10 years of service. He later worked for Cline’s Furniture in Petersburg as service tech.
Mr. Ours was a member of the Rough Run Church of the Brethren and attended Hedrick Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a strong man with a great personality who loved his family and friends and was always willing to help those in need.

Galen is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arvella (Kesner) Ours; six daughters, Brenda (Leonard) Brennan of Dorcas, WV, Barbara (Randy) Mongold of Petersburg, WV, Bernice (Gary) Hedrick of Upper Tract, WV, Sandy (Jeffrey) Thorne of Petersburg, WV, Gale (Allen) Vance of Petersburg, WV and Teresa (Jeff) Sullivan of Petersburg, WV; nine grandsons, Leonard Brennan II., Gabriel Mongold, Nathaniel Mongold, Jeremy Hedrick, Jonathan Hedrick, Jordan Thorne, Joshua Sullivan, Brandon Sullivan and Christopher Sullivan; six granddaughters, Brenna Brennan, Charity Wolford, Jacqueline Propst, Danielle Webster, Savanna Vance and Shalee Vance; twelve great grandchildren; six brothers, Bobby Ours, Dale (Virginia) Ours, Ralph (Cornelia) Ours, Olin (Carol) Ours, all of Dorcas, WV, Paul (Wanda) Ours of Durgon, WV and Delmas Ours of Petersburg, WV; two sisters, Mernie (Paul) Kimble of Dorcas, WV and Arvella (John) Zimmerer of Petersburg, WV; two sisters-in-law, Delphia Ours of South Fork, WV and Maxine Ours of Keyser, WV and one brother-in-law, Curtis “Peanut” Sites of Dorcas, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, June 11, 2017, from 2-4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Rev. Larry A. Hakes and Rev. Richard L. Longbon officiating.

Interment will be in the Ours Family Cemetery, Rough Run, WV with military rites by Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454.
