Ada Beatrice Whittle Martin

Ada Beatrice Whittle Martin Nov. 18, 1912 - Jan. 26, 2007 Lahaina, Maui – Beatrice "Mamo" Martin 94, 91 Pihaa Street, went to be with her Lord and her loved ones who preceded her in death, on January 26, 2007 at her residence in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. Beatrice was the most likable, sweetest, understanding, loveable women you would ever meet. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Beatrice was born in Bosworth, Kentucky on November 18, 1912 and had been a resident of Lahaina (Kaanapali Hillside) since 2000, living with her granddaughter, Deborah Hayworth Gardner and her husband Doug Gardner. Beatrice married James Martin on June 2, 1927 and they moved to Bakersfield in 1942 with her three children, Gertrude, Betty and Jim. She was devoted wife, mother and grandmother. After the death of her husband in 1959, she raised two of her grandchildren as she had raised her own. In 1990 she moved to Redondo Beach, CA living with her granddaughter and her husband until they moved to Maui in 2000. She loved Hawaii and vacationed there often prior to the 2000 move. She loved to travel, play cards, read romance novels, shop, decorate her homes, the warm weather, ocean, sunsets, driving to Hana and around the rest of the island and her devoted dog Yogi Bear. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Martin of 37 years; parents, Lewis H. and Gertrude Whittle; three brothers, Harold, Freddy and Alfred Whittle and eldest daughter Gertrude "Trudy" Martin. Beatrice is survived by her daughter Betty Hayworth, son Jim and Shirley Martin of Bakersfield, granddaughter and husband Deborah and Doug Gardner of Maui, nieces Peggy Scott of TN and Dorothy Bloomer of PA, a sister-in-law Eula Whittle of Kingsport, TN. Beatrice has nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Services will be conducted Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel at Greenlawn Cemetery, River Blvd., followed by a graveside service with Pastor Cole. Beatrice was deeply loved and will be desperately missed by her family.
