Helen L. Plant, Duluth, took the Lords Hand on Feb. 18, 2007 after a valiant 30 day fight for life from injuries sustained in an auto accident on Jan. 15. Helen was born in Chicago on Sept. 25, 1925 to William and Bessie Raubert Callahan and moved to Duluth in September 1939. She was a graduate of Duluth Central High School. Helen was first and foremost a homemaker although she held several jobs while traveling with her husband during his long military service. In the 1950s she worked at NASA Headquarters in Houston, Texas at the start of the astronaut program and knew many of our original astronauts, a job she had great pride in. She also was a long distance telephone operator with Bell Telephone in Duluth for over four years. Helen was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 32 years and had belonged to several circles during that time. She also was an active member of the West Duluth Womens Club, Post Home at the American Legion, Y-Tac and several travel clubs. She is preceded in death by her parents. Helen is survived by her husband of 61 years, Theodore 'Ted' Plant; and nieces, Yvette Bryant, Ocala Fla., Linda Gardner and Debbie Plant, Oklawaha, Fla., and Jaqueline Whalen of Duluth. MEMORIAL SERVICE:11 a.m. Friday in Westminster Presbyterian Church, Duluth. Burial at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home
