He was a German architect and court architect. He was a pupil of Friedrich August Krubsacius and Jean-François Chalgrin. He was appointed building inspector by Maximilian von Sachsen in 1783 and has been at the service of Anton von Sachsen since 1797 as a construction and garden inspector. Giesel was regarded as the representative of French classicism in Dresden.
