HERBERT H GLEASON

Herbert H Gleason, 80, died suddenly on Thursday when he was stricken while visiting his wife's grave in Oakland Cemetery. The ambulance was called by he died before reaching the hospital.

He was the son of Gabriel Havens Gleason and Sarah H (Vail) Gleason and was born in Sag Harbor where he made his home for the greater part of his life, with the exception of 29 years spent in Brooklyn. His father practiced law in Sag Harbor and Greenport and on his paternal side was Rev Henry Gleason who preached in Durham, Conn. He was also a direct descendant of Capt David Hand, who was an active Long Islander in the Revolutionary War.

Funeral services were held Saturday July 8 at his late home on Palmer Terrace and burial was in the family plot in Oakland Cemetery.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs John D Arfmann and one granddaughter Jean of Rutherford NJ; and two sisters, Mrs Herbert M Hildreth of Sag Harbor and Mrs J Foster Payne of North Haven.
