Richard "Rick" D. Humphreys, 49, of Florence, passed away Christmas Eve, Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at his family home. Deeply loyal and caring, with a wonderful sense of humor, Rick forged enduring bonds with friends and family in both the deaf and hearing communities.

Born in Syracuse, New York, Rick moved to Florence as a little blonde boy with a big smile. He grew up in town, graduating from the Clarke School for the Deaf and then from Northampton High School. He Subsequently earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Massachusetts and a master of fine arts in woodworking from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

A skilled craftsman, Rick specialized in furniture design, leaving behind a substantial and impressive collection of hand-crafted furniture and decorative arts. He had a keen eye and a profound appreciation for the visual arts and shared a passion for drawing and painting with his brother, uncles and grandmother. More recently, Rick learned digital photography and meticulously restored antique photographs.

He was an accomplished skier, carpenter and golfer, loved the Red Sox and Patriots, and traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe.

Beloved by family and friends, Rick is survived by his parents Richard L. and Camilla S. Humphreys of Florence, his sister Karen and husband Bret of West Hartford, Connecticut, and twin brother Jonathan and wife Amy of Summit, New Jersey. He was also the loving uncle of nieces Molly, Camilla, Olivia and Samantha.
