Edgar M. Wheaton, nephew of Jesse Wheaton, founder of town of Wheaton, Illinois, son of Angell and Lydia Ann (Williams) Wheaton. Graduated from Wheaton College (no family connection to name). Came to Putnam in 1872 following marriage to Charity Jayne, daughter Timothy and Pheobe Elizabeth (Plimpton) Jayne, a Wheaton College graduate, and a descendant of the Long Island Jayne's. Was engaged in building many new additions to town of Putnam. Owner of Wheaton Building & Lumber. Member of Congregational Church, serving as a deacon. Up-standing member of community. Children: Mary, Frank, Walter (Fire Chief of Putnam - 1934), Henry, Willie and Raymond.
